Care Services

Both Autumn Gardens and Anastasia Lodge provide Residential Care, Dementia Care, Short Stay & Respite Care, Palliative Care & End of Life Care and Day Care. Autumn Gardens also provides Nursing Care.

Residential Care

In our residential units, at Autumn Gardens and Anastasia Lodge, we provide personal care by our care team for those who find it increasingly difficult to cope at home with the activities of daily living without assistance, such as washing, dressing, eating and mobility. We place a high priority on each resident’s individuality, so for each resident, we create a detailed person-centred care plan tailoring our care to suit the resident’s needs.

We arrange any support our residents require from GPs, nurses, chiropodists, dentists, opticians, other health and social care professionals and the hairdresser. Our person-centred approach means our residents are respected as an individual and treated with dignity.

Nursing Care

In our nursing unit at Autumn Gardens, we provide nursing care by our Registered Nurses for individuals with a condition that requires frequent specialised nursing care. The nurses work alongside the care team who provide assistance with the activities of daily living, such as washing, dressing, eating and mobility.

In a similar way as the residential unit, the nursing team creates a detailed person-centred care plan tailoring our care to suit the resident’s needs. We arrange any support our residents require from GPs, chiropodists, dentists, opticians, other health and social care professionals and the hairdresser. Our person-centred approach means our residents are respected as an individual and treated with dignity.

Dementia Care

Dementia is a broad term describing a range of symptoms when the brain is affected by specific conditions. The symptoms differ from person to person and may include loss of memory, confusion, problems with speech and understanding, seeing things that are not there and mood changes, becoming easily anxious, withdrawn or frustrated.

We care for residents with differing forms of dementia and at different stages of the conditions. Our approach to dementia care is to focus on the individual, rather than the diagnosis of dementia. By considering each resident’s life story, we build a picture of our resident’s preferences, needs, likes and dislikes, so we can create a detailed person-centred care plan tailoring our care to suit the particular resident.

Our focus is to assist each resident to build on their strengths and abilities, whilst supporting them with the areas that become increasingly difficult, so they can maintain their identity and dignity through the progression of the condition. Depending on the particular needs of our residents, an individual may be cared for in the residential units or the nursing unit, receiving the support they need.

Short Stay or Respite Care

Where possible, we offer short stays or respite care for individuals who wish to stay for a short period. Individuals come to us for respite care for a range of reasons. These include: to enable a carer to take a break, so they can relax in the knowledge that their loved one is safe and cared for; to enable an individual’s home to be redecorated; as an emergency where the individual’s normal package of care has broken down, perhaps as a result of a carer becoming ill or the individual developing a short-term illness that cannot be managed in their own home. There is limited availability for respite care and it is subject to room availability.

End of Life Care and Palliative Care

End of life care and palliative care is the care of residents whose condition no longer responds to treatment. Our aim is to control pain and other physical symptoms to ease suffering, whilst ensuring that the psychological, social and spiritual needs of the individual are considered and met, so that our residents can live out their lives with dignity and respect and in accordance with their wishes. We understand how difficult and emotional this can be and try to give the best quality of life for both our residents and their families.

Day Care

We offer a Day Care Service designed for individuals who simply wish to come to us for the day, enjoy freshly prepared meals and participate in the social events occurring in the home on that day including the scheduled days out, religious and cultural activities and special events.

We offer flexible hours to suit the individual’s and their family’s lifestyle and needs and our Day Care Service is available seven days a week, including weekends, bank holidays and religious festivals.

Lifestyle

Taking part in activities adds to the quality of life of our residents. Our Activities Team offers a wide range of activities seven days a week.

Daily Activities

Our day to day activities include reminiscence, memories through visual aids, orientation, prayers, chair and ball exercises, hula hoop, bingo, baking, gardening in the raised vegetable patch, flower arranging, group singing, dancing, knitting and crochet, drawing and colouring, religious scriptures and religious and political discussions.

Days Out

Our days out have included carvery lunches at Whitewebbs and walks in the countryside, Golden Oldies at Ashmole School where the children perform and our residents dine, a tour of Forty Hall and the grounds and tea and cake in the Courtyard Café.

Religious and Cultural Activities

Keeping in touch with one’s religion and culture is a crucial part of many of our residents’ lives. We understand the importance of maintaining our residents’ culture within the home and celebrating religious festivals with family and friends. This common ground allows residents to instantly bond with each other and bond with the home.

Our local Greek Orthodox priest regularly visits our home to bless our residents and give Holy Communion, and carries out a full service in the home once a year. We also arrange visits to the church during Holy Week at Easter. Our local Catholic priest and sister also regularly visit our home to give Holy Communion to our Catholic residents.  We welcome representatives of all faiths.

Special Events

Each year, we hold a barbecue inviting all our residents, their families and friends, and celebrate many events with live music, dancing and delicious food, such as annual Egg tapping (‘tsoungrisma’) on Greek Easter Sunday, St Patrick’s Day and Cyprus Carnival week.

Each month, we hold a birthday party for our residents, celebrating their new year with a tasty Cypriot buffet and Anastasia Ourris’ home-made desserts.

Feel free to take a look at some of our most recent events on our Notice Board.

Dining

Our meals and mealtimes are a very important part of our day. They are a time for socialising and a time to eat our freshly cooked, nutritionally balanced and delicious meals. We offer a Cypriot and a British choice for each meal, and offer a variety of snacks throughout the day.

Our experienced chefs understand the nutritional requirements of each of residents and ensure that each resident’s needs are met.
